OBJECTIVES
To set a stimulating and fast, authoritative, environmental benchmark for the first solar circumnavigation using a unique solar boat with no fuel, not even for cooking, on board.

To examine, analyse, explain and promote the possible uses of zero input, zero emissions photovoltaics and other sun-direct-to-user energy technologies.

To use the circumnavigation as the core dramatic structure to an exciting full length cinema environmental adventure feature film. A docu-drama bio-pic with combinations of real time adventure, historical re-enactment and investigative documentary.

WELCOME

Anthony HowarthThe original solar circumnavigator.
Anthony Howarth first promoted photovoltaic power, pure and hybrid, for transport in 1979 during the second 1970s world energy crisis.

In 1986 he first investigated the possibility of a solar circumnavigation, including early designs for the boat and discussions with naval architects.

Living on a solar self-sufficient boat in the Caribbean in the early 1990s, Anthony made a first detailed practical proposal for "a first solar circumnavigation", his two targeted sponsors did not bite.

In 1994, in collaboration with his son, Benjamin, and his daughter, Karen, Global Greencat (green catamaran) was launched in The House of Commons in London.

Ben dropped out, perhaps wisely, to follow a burgeoning career in film. Karen, then working for Granada Television in the UK after starting her career in war-torn Lebanon with Ted Turner’s fledgling CNN, saw a first solar circumnavigation as an important and timely story.

Karen continued unceasingly to give of her time and money, her media expertise and facility with computers and earned income, to develop the project.

Industry support was fantastic. Goods and services being provided at all levels from all major brands (names available). But, no financial sponsorship was found.  In 1997 the project was mothballed for lack of funding.

Ben Howarth went on to rise from third, to second, to first assistant director on major movies throughout the world. Ben has worked with James Ivory, Steven Spielberg, Woody Allen and Richard Curtis, he is now also a producer.

Karen found love and marriage and is bringing up two young children in France.

Environmental, political and energy issues, which solar power can address, are more accepted and even more acute now, in 2009/2010, than in 1994.

FIRST PUBLISHING OF (PART OF) 'BOAT, PEOPLE AND ME'
An excerpt from Boat, People and Me, Book 2 of Anthony Howarth’s up coming 9-volume autobiography – Re-Offending - is now available for download on the Media pages.

A second episode of this story will be included in a later press release and posted on our website.
TIMETABLE
With sufficient funds in hand by the end of 2009, a solar circumnavigation in 2011 is practical.
Let the people prove that solar power is the potential major 'free' and readily available source of energy for human activity.
Donate and join !!
The solar boat, The Solar Circumnavigator, and it's voyage directly address many of today's critical issues to do with greenhouse gases, climate change, depleted oil reserves and rising oil prices.

Please DONATE
Even small amounts can help !

By donating you will become part of a growing community of people who recognise the need for a worldwide change to environment friendly, economic, sustainable, alternate energy sources.  You will be informed by regular web mail, about the progess of the project and receive a Peoples account to communicate with others, share your ideas and take part in discussions on our (future) forum.

Furthermore you will have access to scheduled events, visits, and chat-sessions with the project team during the voyage, and other interactive media available at the time.
